Meet Rachel of Analiese Designs
Tell us a little about you . . .
My name is Rachel – middle name Analiese – which is where my shop name and design name came from. I live in Milford, CT, walking distance to the beach - so our family just loves the water. I am married and have a beautiful 7 year old son who is the center of my life. I am a certified elementary teacher, however, I am still looking for a full time teaching job. In the mean time – I teach an adult-education GED prep class and substitute teach in my town. This gives me the flexibility to continue my business.

What is your business and where can we find it?
I create a variety of jewelry related items – most of which are polymer clay image pendants. I also make glass image pendants and beaded jewelry as well as some other household items such as magnets, bookmarks and more.
My biggest seller, especially for the holidays, are my custom photo items made on both clay and glass.
I have been featured in a catalog, and will soon be featured in an upcoming issue of Stringing magazine.
I also sell my wares at a few local businesses and will be adding them to a new Art gallery opening soon.
See my Etsy Shop at http://analiese.etsy.com/.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?
It is mom-owned, invented and created J I have a pendant that is very popular for moms – the Child’s artwork pendant . This is a great way to display and wear your child’s art.
A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?
I started by just making beaded jewelry and ventured into Polymer clay just to experiment. I tried a lot of image transfer techniques that never worked and discovered my technique completely by accident. It is the best accident that could have happened, since it really is my most popular item. I have had over 3,000 sales on Etsy and continue to expand my line of items as much as possible.

Where else can people find you?
I have a blog at http://analiesedesigns.blogspot.com/
I also have a Flickr Page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/analiesedesigns/
And, another website – that I am currently updating – so it does not have much
http://www.analiesedesigns.com/

Anything else you’d like to share?
I love being a part of the Etsy community and I feel it has helped me to become a better businesswoman and artist. I enjoy my craft and try to find as much time as possible to work on it.

Meet Stacey of Cedar Valley Publishing

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am not a teacher or educator, and yet I created a book used by schools.  I didn’t create the alphabet, numbers, colors or shapes but found a way to repackage it for parents, kids and teachers.  With a telephone and a computer, I created www.cedarvalleypublishing.com. 10% of all profits are donated to literacy foundations and back to schools.  By donating back to a school, schools see my books and want to write grants to purchase more!

I am an author, publisher, consultant, blogger, speaker, motivator, spokesperson, CEO and Mom!

What is your business and where can we find it?

I run four companies from home:

www.cedarvalleypublishing.com

www.momcentralconsulting.com

www.mother-talk.com

www.staceykannenberg.com – coming soon

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes, mom-owned, mom invested and mom created!! I am the author and publisher of Let’s Get Ready For Kindergarten! & Let’s Get Ready For First Grade! Both books are award-winning, state-approved and used inside homes and schools across the nation.  They are currently used in over 350 school districts from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon and in libraries and head start programs all across the country.   Parents, kids and grandparents all love them because they are not storybooks or workbooks; they are books meant to be read over and over that cover the curriculum for Kindergarten and First Grade.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

I broke every rule starting out in the publishing world and in the end, it has been a blessing!! Has it been easy, no, it’s been long nights of burning both ends of the candle to juggle everything around my family schedule! I absolutely love it and can’t tell if I am working or playing!! My mantra is if two brothers from Ohio can change the face of aviation, that why can’t a mom, inspired by Oprah change education at the core!  I will be releasing the highly anticipated Spanish/English edition of Let’s Get Ready For Kindergarten! iA prepararse para kindergarten!    My kids think it is hilarious that I am writing a Spanish book without being able to read or write the language.  As my 7 year old says, “Just hire a translator, duh, anyone can do anything!”   This is a true family business! Who better to help me write Let’s Get Ready For Second Grade! than my 2nd and 4th grader!

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am a mom inspired by Oprah to change education.  This has become my passion! Thirty-eight states are discussing all day 4 year-old Kindergarten because kids are not coming to school prepared.  But where are the public service announcements telling parents the 7 things they need to know for Kindergarten testing:  the alphabet all mixed up, number to 10 all mixed up, basic shapes, colors, coins, counting objects to 10 and how far they can count to 100? Schools purchase my books in bulk to help get parents, kids and teachers all on the same page of Kindergarten and First Grade!  Now I have a national platform speaking to educators, schools, parents and kids to help get everyone on the same page!

How to Dress Up Your Blog

Who wants a pretty new background?  3 columns?
Some fun new widgets?

Read on for some tips on dressing up your blog.

Instructions are specific to Blogger, since that is what I know, but ideas on where to find new things for your blog apply to everyone!
  • BASICS-  If you want to change any of the basics, background color, text color, etc.  Go to “customize” “layout” “fonts and colors.”  From there you can change whatever you like.

  • IMAGES- If you already have a website, you’ve probably covered this part already.  If you’re looking for images to make your blog look prettier, cuter, more professional, any of the above, one of my favorite sites is www.istockphoto.com.  It is full of photographs, illustrations, etc. from all different artists.  They range from $5-$15 per image or set of images.  It works by buying credits and the lowest amount available is 10 credits for $14.  You can also contact the illustrators you like if you’re looking for custom work.  Some do it and some don’t, and costs vary.

  • GADGETS-  Most of you are probably pretty familiar with this, but to add goodies like pictures, html, and blogger widgets, go to “layout” “page elements” and “add a gadget.”  From there you can add any of the listed widgets.  See my post on how to grab a button if you want to put other sites’ buttons on your blog.

  • COLUMNS- Here’s the big question I get, “How do you make a blog 3 columns?”  There are no Blogger templates that are 3 columns.  You can search for html code to change it yourself, but I wouldn’t recommend it without some knowledge of html.  If you do it, make sure you back up your old template.  Also, know that it will erase all of your widgets, including all the buttons you have on your blog.  You’ll need to go back and put them in.

  • WIDGETS-  This is the fun part- adding widgets that make your site easier to use and more interactive.  Do a search for “blogger widgets” or “widgets for blog” and you’ll find many sites with codes for widgets.  A good place to start is www.widgetbox.com.

  • RSS and e-mail FEED-  You can set up your feed through blogger by adding a gadget.  I like using a site called Feedburner.  Go to Feedburner and follow the directions to set up RSS feed and/or e-mail feed so that readers can keep track of your new posts.  What is RSS feed?  Check out this article at www.problogger.net.

  • There are some things you’ll see on my blog that I honestly don’t remember where I figured out how to do them.  Some have been easy and some have been very time consuming.  There are a couple blogging “how to” websites I read regularly for ideas- http://www.bloggingbasics101.com and http://www.problogger.net.

Subscribe to my feed or become a follower to stay up to date on upcoming giveaways and posts.  We will be having some blog design giveaways as well as chances to win some cute graphics!

Meet Chelle of Dapper Snappers!
Get 25% off orders $25 or more! Use code minewkit.
Tell us a little about you . . . My name is Michelle and I am 37 years old (but I'm still 25 at heart!). I am an On the Go Mom of 2; a 3 1/2 year old son who just started preschool and a 21 month old daughter who likes to take on kids twice her size in the church nursery. I am happily married to a fabulous man and together we like to spend time inventing, running Cazella Innovations Inc, and raising our beautiful kids. I'm a fan of hockey and like to watch Lost, Hereos, How I met your Mother, and American Idol (not that I have time to watch these, but I catch them when I force myself to sit down and relax). Above all else, I am a Christian. What is your business and where can we find it? My business is Toddler Tech USA, a division of Cazella Innovations Inc. Our product, Dapper Snappers "Fix Droopy Drawers in a Snap!" is the perfect way to cinch up your kids' pants. The Dapper Snapper is a short piece of suspender elastic with snaps that fits in the back 3 beltloops of your child's pants and snaps over the outer 2. It is one size fits all, adjustable to 4 sizes, and it meant for children ages 9 months to 5 years. You can find them at http://www.dappersnappers.com/ as well as a few boutiques. You can also find them at http://www.toddlertechusa.com/. We plan on selling other mom-invented products on that site as well. Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .? All of the above! My son was the inspiration for Dapper Snappers. After fighting with Dritz Fashion Fit Clips, I new there had to be a better way to keep his pants up. And I really needed that way to be adjustable. After a year in research and development, Dapper Snappers were perfected and ready to market. Dapper Snappers currently come in 9 colors and we just introduced our newest line for the fall/winter, Snapcessories™. A little about your entrepreneur journey so far? It's been amazing! I have met so many great people and made a lot of friends. I can't believe what a learning experience this all has been. I really had no idea what I was getting into when I decided that I would only use supplies made in the USA and that I would not outsource the production of Dapper Snappers. One day, I asked my husband why he didn't just kill me when I made the decision to manufacture these things myself. He said that I would have just come back from the dead and done it anyway. So true. Where else can people find you?

Meet Julie of Yenithing!

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am a mother of two toddlers. Besides my company Yenithing, I maintain a VP role with one of the world’s leading financial institutions. I have nearly a decade of marketing and public relations experience, specializing in branding, product launches and events. My career has run the gambit from the non-profit sector to working for a major FORTUNE® 50 retailer.

What is your business and where can we find it?

A Yeni is a patent pending decorative apron designed to keep you dry when bathing your baby, toddler or pet. The apron protects your clothes by absorbing the splishes and splashes of bath time. You can find it on www.yenithing.com.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

It is mom invented and all made in the USA.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

The company’s flagship product, the Yeni, was perfected as a solution for a dryer, happier experience for my husband and I, while bathing their first child Jack and now little sis Katie.

Creating this functional, stylish product led me to the belief that all moms and dads should have access to this product to improve the quality of bath time with their loved ones. My other friends and moms-to-be loved the trendy aprons so much, it became my baby gift of choice. Word of mouth and demand spread, and the Yeni was born!

Yenithing offers six types of personalized, stylish and sophisticated bath aprons to keep active moms and dads dry during bath time for baby or their pets!

Where else can people find you? Facebook

Anything else you’d like to share?

It is very easy to use:

  • Simply slip the adjustable strap over your head with the decorative apron falling flat across your front.
  • Tighten or loosen the straps to make sure your clothes are protected.
  • Once bath time is over, use the bottom of the towel to wrap up your little one while you dry them off.

Meet Sheila of Love Prints

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Sheila McGoldrick and I am a mom to three fabulous kiddies. Their ages are six, four and one. I am married to my high school sweetheart, who makes me laugh EVERYDAY. I am truly blessed and I take nothing for granted. I am also the mom-inventor of the Handy Burpee and the Handy Burp’ems, which are new style burp cloths with a protective covering for your hand an protects baby as well from wearing spit-up.

You can find my product at http://www.loveprints.net/, all Babies R’ Us locations nationwide, and http://www.mom4life.com/ with more stores to come. We are very proud at successful they have been so far.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Absolutely! I was a mom in pain and totally invented it out of necessity! I had an allergic reaction to a preservative in their washes and wipes and needed something to protect myself from constantly wearing spit-up and washing my hands. It has worked perfectly for me and figured I could surely help others if I just followed my dream of getting them out there.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

Well, it has been a four year journey so far. I invented my product in September of 04’ and it was not until September of 06’ when I launched my site. I had so much wonderful feedback from family and friends and orders were coming in for more. Someone asked me about a website and then I thought that would be great to get them out there nationwide. So in October of 2006 we launched Love Prints. Some people could not quite get the name, but to me my kiddies little hand and foot prints are my Love Prints and it was a perfect fit for me and reminds me of them and why I started this journey. I was selling, advertising, going to craft shows, applied for my non-provisional patent, filed it and continued on selling and advertising. Then in February of 08’ WE WERE FOUND. A large manufacturer of baby and children’s products found me on http://www.mom4life.com/ where they were being sold. She ordered and tested it on herself with her baby and FELL IN LOVE with them. WOW, what a huge compliment coming from such a large company. I actually re-designed the original Handy Burpee at that time and added a dribble catcher pocket to catch those quicker and larger spit-ups. What a wonderful addition and it really added to the protection of the burp cloth. They name was also changed to Handy Burp’ems to go with the added feature. I trademarked the name and filed for my provisional patent. We are now in the patent pending stage.

Meet Carole of Hippos Toes! Launch Day is Here!

Join her on her launch!
Hippos Toes is Officially open!

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am a mom and the founder of Hippos Toes. I have a 20 month old son that is the joy of my life. I also have a very supportive husband that gives me much encouragement along the way. Prior to my new venture launching Hippos Toes, I was an architectural lighting designer. My husband and I owned a lighting design practice where we did commercial lighting design for corporate offices, universities, retail, hospitality, museums and the like. After being in the business over 10 years I basically got burned out. It’s not as glamorous as it sounds. Not to mention I had my son and I just didn’t want to work that many hours or be away from home anymore. I also teach lighting design in the interior design department of an art school.

What is your business and where can we find it?

Hippos Toes is an eboutique that features fair trade children’s clothing that is made in South Africa. You can find me at http://hippostoes.com/.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Hippos Toes is a mom-owned business. The ladies that make the clothing are mom’s as well so you could say it’s a joint venture. A little about your entrepreneur journey so far? My husband and I visited South Africa a couple of years ago and I came across the Bug Zoo clothing line there. I feel in love with the clothing because it was so unique and unlike anything I had seen before. Since then I have found out the Bug Zoo is fair trade clothing, and that the women that make the clothing are living in disadvantaged areas on South Africa. They have very limited income opportunities in their country and they are mom's like us, trying their best to support their families. Well that became very important to me - I wanted to help them improve their lives. The fact that the clothing is well made, fun and unique, was also an important selling point. I felt if I liked them so much then other's would like them just as much as me, so I developed my eboutique, Hippos Toes to feature their adorable clothing. I have met some incredible people along my journey. I’m amazed at all the social networking sites that are available to help me build relationships with other moms and moms that work from home. It really does help with the isolation of working from home.

Where else can people find you?

I’m also going to be joining Facebook as well – just haven’t gotten to that one yet.

Meet Linda of RS Designs!
Tell us a little about you . . . I am a Swedish gal who found love and moved to Brazil. A proud mother to a blond little boy and a happy wife to my brasileiro man. I am very outgoing and like to connect with new people all the time and usually juggle several projects at the same time. What is your business and where can we find it? I work with Revka at RS Designs where we create quality web design for women online. Mommy bloggers and female business owners are welcome to us, we help with website design, blog design, mommy cards, twitter design, custom and premade design. We guarantee a 100% satisfaction when you buy our designs or we will refund your money. We want to make sure our clients are completely happy with their designs so we have no limit on revisions. Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .? Yes, we are both Work At Home Moms, although we live in different parts of the world we have managed to create a wonderful business together. Everything started when Revka helped me with a header beginning of last year. I had made the design but didn't have the right software for it which Revka did and from there on Revka started RS Designs which I joined in June last year.Because we are moms and WAHM's and know of the difficulties balancing work and home, our services are especially for wahms and moms. A little about your entrepreneur journey so far? It's been good! We are becoming more and more recognized and we are learning new things every day. It is not easy to start a business without a business background but we are happy so far and are constantly growing. We have new ideas in mind to implement for the new year and can't wait to show you all! Where else can people find you?
