Meet Carla of Text Message Baby

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Carla and I live in sunny, southeast, Florida with my wonderful husband, Tracey, my son and twin daughters. I was a legal assistant until becoming a full time stay at home mom after the birth of my beautiful twin daughters. Once my children were over the age of 5, I started selling merchandise on eBay. It began strictly as a hobby, but quickly grew into a full time business. I now own two successful e-commerce businesses and my selling on eBay is a thing of the past.

What is your business and where can we find it?

Text Message Baby is a new online store offering hip and trendy baby clothes with an environmental conscience. Colorful onesies for baby are made of 100% organic cotton and are printed with the latest text messaging graphics and whimsical emoticons. If you are a retailer looking to expand your product line, why not choose a hip new line of organic onesies that consumers will be increasingly drawn to. Text Message Baby would love to fit the little ones in your area. Here are a few of the sites that already carry our fabulous onesies:

www.textmessagebaby.com

http://www.2sillymonkeysboutique.com/

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

The inspiration behind “Text Message Baby” came from my beautiful twin daughters who love sending text messages to their friends. They were constantly using this funky short way of communicating on their computers and cell phones. By just typing a few letters, numbers, and a smiley emoticon, they were able to have a full conversation with their friends in mere seconds with just a few key strokes. It didn't take me long to realize that I would have to learn how to text if I wanted to keep up with them! What in the world was LOL, and what did it mean? My girls quickly brought me up to speed on how to text and not long after, I found myself using this same strange jargon to communicate as well.

I decided to share my family’s love of text messaging with you by creating an adorable line of baby clothes that are as unique as your baby’s personality. Available in more than 20 bright colors, not only are Text Message Baby’s products fun to wear, they are safe for the environment because they are made with 100% certified organic cotton fibers. All of our products are hand-printed using citrus oil based chemicals which are also 100% biodegradable and non-toxic.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

Creating a product that was environmentally friendly and that defined the latest trend was my passion. From creation to launching the site, Text Message Baby has been a whirlwind of opportunities. The business has flourished in just a few short months and we are now looking to the future. We have many more designs and colors to introduce and also look forward to adding a line of hats and bibs as well.

Meet Jenny Ford of Monkey Toes

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Jenny Ford, I’m a mom of 2 girls, wife to an amazing man who is a firefighter in Denver. I am a constant thinker, I don’t think my mind shuts off – EVER. I love business, how it works, the way it makes me feel, the fact that there is always something to do, creating something people really love, I could go on and on.

What is your business and where can we find it?

Monkey-Toes are hand painted children’s shoes. Our shoes are painted to look like children’s favorite characters like, Ladybugs, Bees, Frogs, Pigs, Cows, Monkeys, Spiders, Cat & Dog and some fictional characters too – Boogie Monsters, LUV bugs, and Flutterflies. You can even see an exclusive design of ours at www.poshtots.com – the Garden Damselfly.

All of our products can be found online at www.monkey-toes.com and all over the world at select brick and mortar boutiques and online e-tailers.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes, I am a mom, I began the biz when my daughters were at the wee age of 2 and 6 months old. It was a crazy busy time, as you can imagine. I then became a single mom and had the toughest/hardest experience of my life.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

I began the concept of Monkey-Toes over 8 years ago, though at the time I had no idea I was starting it. I pursued, with my best friend, a dream of being a stay at home mom and enjoying afternoon tea and hand painting things around the house while our children play quietly (don’t we all dream of that???), then we woke up from that dream! And we took a painting class. I was actually good at it and flew right through projects. It was easy to me. I had seen an idea for painting on shoes, but didn’t like the designs. I made up my own. 2 years and 2 kids later, I was searching everywhere for sources to purchase supplies and painting tons of shoes on my own, then finding ways to sell them. Now 6 years later, it’s grown into an amazing business. I work with some incredibly talented female painters in the Denver area, who without them, I don’t know what I would do.

It’s been an amazing journey. I have had great success in the media – Suri Cruise/Oprah - the high! And I have had crazy lows in the financial arena – went through a divorce and single mom-hood - the low - but amazingly enough, I am thrilled that I have learned as much as I have during this experience, and I am a much better business person because of it.

Where else can people find you? (blog, facebook, twitter, etc.)

All of the above – I welcome friends!

Twitter – www.twitter.com/monkeytoesshoes

Blog - http://www.monkey-toes-monkey.blogspot.com/ (I am working to change the concept of this blog, making it a more entrepreneurial site, where people starting businesses can ask questions and I can share the information with everyone who reads along – kind of an open forum, as if I were actually sitting down and having coffee with them).

Anything else you’d like to share?

Meet Kay of My Precious Kid

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am a Christian wife, mother, and Nana. I live in Oregon with my husband and youngest daughter Haley (8). We have 3 adult children. We have a granddaughter Madison ( almost 2) and are expecting twin grands in June.

What is your business and where can we find it?

www.MyPreciousKid.com My Precious Kid is a child safety & baby gear store in Hillsboro Oregon. We carry over 100 products: child safety, child proofing, ID products, baby sleep, baby feed, breastfeeding, potty training, Radian car seats, Ergo baby carriers, and safe sippys.

We have been selling online at www.MyPreciouskId.com for 7 years. In June 2008 we moved to retail space in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes, I started in 2001 with one product: children’s ID cards. Then we added wearable ID products for children: ID bracelets, shoe tags, and more.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

We started with one product that we created. Then we added a full line of ID kits for kids. Over time we added many other products. Many of them are mom created as well. Our passion is child safety and educating parents.

Car seat safety is one of my areas of concern. Too many parents move their children out of a 5 point harness before age 4 and 40 pounds which is not safe. And too many parents leave their babies in the infant carrier past its weight/height limit (usually 26” and 20 pounds) which is not safe.

I teach an online potty training class for parents.

Meet Karen of Wett Giggles

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Karen St.Clair and I’m a married mother of two.

I live and work in New York City….By day I work full-time selling digital printing and various digital products….After work and on the weekends I sell my Wett Giggles soap product.

What is your business and where can we find it?

My company is called Wett Giggles Soap. It’s natural glycerin soap with a toy/nailbrush attached for kids.

I needed to find a fun way to get my then six-year old son into good hygiene habits.

Combining soap with a Nail brush did that! Hand washing and bath time was something he looked forward to.

It’s a three in one product. You have the fruity scented soap, and the animal toy that couples as a manicure brush.

Currently I sell this product online at www.wettgiggles.com

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

The Wett Giggles soap concept was created right in my bathroom as I tried

to remove the dirt from my son’s nails. I took a bar of soap and dug into his dirty nails.

While I’m doing this I thought, too bad this soap isn’t a nail brush.

And then I thought, why not combine the two…. Get soap and a nail brush together.

Wett Giggles is born just like that.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

I started this project in 2005 and officially opened my website for business in Jan. 2007.  It’s an ongoing journey that never really stops.  I learned being an entrepreneur requires more than just knowing how to spell it.  You have to work a little, ask questions and be patient.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when starting out.  Just remember you can’t do any of this alone.  Just open your mouth and help will be there.

Meet Jennifer of List Plan It

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Jennifer Tankersley. I am a wife of 14 years and a mom to 3 (7, 5, 3). I was born and raised in Kansas, but have lived in 4 other states and one other country since graduating from high school. We live in Maine and hope to grow old here. We love it! Even the winters.

What is your business and where can we find it?

I am the founder of ListPlanIt.com (http://www.ListPlanIt.com). It contains over 350 lists and planning pages to organize your life and put your world in order! Members will find grocery lists and meal planning pages, birthday and holiday planning pages, cleaning lists and packing lists, to do lists and calendars, and everything in between.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

I had the inspiration late one night just before New Year’s. I was so excited about my idea that it was launched as a website just 5 months later. Since that time, I’ve added at least 150 lists and planning pages.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

I knew very little about anything business-related when I began. It has been a crash course throughout, but I’ve learned so much and understand that I have so much more to learn. I’ve had a lot of help from my family and other website owners. It is everything I’ve wanted for myself: my own business in something that I am absolutely passionate about and use everyday myself!

Where else can people find you?

I have created 2 blogs: List Mama Blog (http://www.ListMamaBlog.com) has Lists for List-Lovin’ Mamas and 100 Days to Christmas (http://www.100DaystoChristmas.com) is a daily dose of inspiration and motivation to help you prepare for the busy holiday season. I am also on Facebook. You can find me with the following email address: Jennifer@listplanit.com. I would love a follow on Twitter at http://twitter.com/listplanit. I am a member of these social networks: Mom Bloggers Club.com, TwitterMoms.com, and PoshMama.com.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I have a weekly email newsletter called The L.I.S.T. in which I write about organizing your home, family, and business.

Meet Cindi and Nina of LTD Chix

Tell us a little about you . . .

Our names are Cindi Schmitzer and Nina Frye. Cindi grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, went to Penn State, and got married. She and her husband, Mike, are raising four kids. Nina lived in Europe until she was twelve, when she moved to New Jersey. She went to Millersville University which is located in Pennsylvania. She married Rich and together they are raising three children. Both of us currently live in beautiful Sparta, NJ, where we are very active in the community.

What is your business and where can we find it?

We own a company called LTD chix. We have created a line of very funny and cute t-shirts for moms. Each shirt has a different scene of a mom performing daily tasks, i.e. laundry, driving the kids everywhere, grocery shopping, etc. All of the shirts have the same tagline of “Living The Dream”. We sell the shirts online at www.ltdchix.com and also in select stores, a list of which can be found on our website.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes, we both came up with the concept. We think up the new designs. We did hire an illustrator, Steve Anderson, who creates the art. He is a stay-at-home dad who lives in Wisconsin.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

The journey so far has been amazing. We are so proud that we came up with an idea and actually created something from it. It’s been a real learning experience…starting your own business comes along with a steep learning curve.

Where else can people find you?

We are starting our own blog at www.ltdchix.com. Cindi in particular has a lot of funny, crazy stories that come out of raising four kids. You know the drill….husband works a lot, three of the kids are boys, severely outnumbered, some families are just prone to incidents, etc. Please check it out.

Anything else you’d like to share?

If we’ve learned anything out of this whole thing, it’s this…..take a risk. You’ll be happy you did.

I’ve Known her Since Kindergarten (Get extra giveaway entries for November!)

My friend Sara is one of those people that has you laughing hysterically and in tears by the time she’s done with a simple story.  Back in March I convinced her to start a blog, so she could entertain us on a daily basis.

I’d be ever so grateful if you’d become a follower and/or subscribe to her feed.  I’ll even let you put in an extra entry for all of my November contests!  Just let me know you follow Sara.  Comments on her posts would also be appreciated!

Win a Bag of Personalized Photo Confetti!

(1 bag of personalized confetti or photo confetti- winner’s choice)

I am always looking for those cute little personal touches to add to a celebration.  On that note, I have a wonderful find to share with you.  Pink Poodle Boutique recently sent me some personalized photo confetti to try out.  Since a friend was celebrating her son’s first birthday, I e-mailed four pictures, my shape and color choices, and two personal messages.  I received the confetti quickly and passed it along for the party.  Not only was my friend thrilled with it, showing everyone she could find, but guests at the party were raving about it and asking where she found it.

A 2 oz. bag has over 1000 pieces and gives you enough to scatter over 2-4 eight foot tables.  What a great idea for celebrations of all kinds- birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations . . .

Go take a look at www.pink-poodle-boutique.com to choose the colors, shapes, messages, and/or photos to make your party even more special and unique!  Use coupon code MomPack for 25% off.

Meet Beth of Boca Beth

Tell us a little about you.

I am a bilingual mom of three children and educator of thousands. Thanks for my Boca Beth product line I am now traveling the country speaking with fellow educators about how fun & easy it can be to introduce Spanish and English to little children (even when they, the teachers, are monolingual!). I was born in the United States and had the great fortune to study abroad in Chile and Mexico.

What is your business and where can we find it?

My company is called Boca Beth LLC – boca = mouth in Spanish which is the name of our puppet in our DVD series that now airs on The Education Channel. He is BOCA, I am Beth, and together we make up Boca Beth – where it’s fun, easy and affordable to give your child a jump start on learning Spanish and English together in a true bilingual format.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

I started conceptualizing the program and product line back in the early 2000s as a preschool “Ms. Music” teacher. I am the founder and creator of the CDs, DVDs, coloring/activity books and even helped the original Baby Einstein puppet maker evolve BOCA our puppet/language amigo into who he is today!

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

Starting out with music CDs was very important to me as a teacher and as a mom. Our first of four music CDs came out on the heels of our first DVD (which again, as a teacher, I had to include in the product line up for the visual learners). Now our edutainment is aired on The Education Channel here in the Tampa Bay area with hopes of other public access channels picking up the programming for FREE soon. (That is how Barney got discovered, so BOCA is hoping he has the same great fortune!)

Where else can people find you?

We as a company can be found at a non-profit site www.BocaBeth.org where free lesson plans, vocabulary lists and such can be found changing monthly. I can be found on my blog One Song at a Time www.BocaBeth.net along with Twitter at http://twitter.com/bocabeth and MySpace at http://myspace.com/BocaBeth plus at Facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1374780428&ref=profile (still learning how to use all this social media stuff correctly!!!!)

Anything else you’d like to share?

As scary of a time as this year has been for both big businesses and small businesses, I can’t help but feel it’s going to be a good change ahead. Creating a business is work and takes passion and energy and money sometimes you think you never had! But, if this is your true passion, your calling in life, then no matter the naysayers along the way and no matter the challenges you might encounter, if you stay true to your vision and create good karma wherever your travels take you, you will prevail!

Meet Althea of Peeka Stories

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am the mother of 2 little girls ages 3 and 5. I’m a former sales executive for a Fortune 500 company. My children are my inspiration.

What is your business and where can we find it?

Peeka Productions ® creates personalized DVD videos and personalized books. The Personalized books are sold on-line at www.peekastories.com. Our Peeka Like Me SM books include a character designed to look like the child for whom the book is created. These books are one-of-a-kind just like the kids. The website includes a custom character maker so everyone can preview their personal character.

Our Personalized DVD videos are entertaining, educational cartoons that feature parents and other loved-ones as the host. The personalized DVD videos are created primarily in our Chicago Studios and available for groups in other cities. More information can be found at www.peekaproductions.com.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes. I thought up the concept and hired a team of illustrators, animators and graphic designers to help me develop both books and personalized DVDs.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

Going from working with the support of 6,000 coworkers to running my own business has been exhilarating, challenging and overwhelmingly rewarding. Peeka’s production studios are just a few blocks from my home, so I’m always near my family and near our hub of activities.

The marketing, advertising and promotion of our books and personalized DVD services has been the key to our initial success. As we continue to grow, we continue to seek out opportunities to get in front of parents, grandparents and others who would enjoy our books and DVDs. With a money back guarantee, we continue to have exceptional customer happiness feedback. We’ve found that we don’t have one typical type of customer and that makes the opportunities endless.

Where else can people find you?

We have been featured on several TV news segments. For news clips and video samples, visit www.youtube.com/peekaproductions.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Peeka Productions ® suite of personalized products were created with children and their parents in mind. Our books were written to be interactive and to help children bond with the love of reading. Our personalized characters available in our books and DVDs allow children of all nationalities and looks to have a book with a character that looks like them. They are truly unique!
